Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone??

Just wanted to give my readers the heads up that our entire family (all six of us) are visiting our relatives in OHIO this week. Therefore, I will not be able to do product reviews while we are here. No worries, there are lots of cool new things I get to tell you about when I get home!

So miss me while I am gone...and the One Bored Mommy will be back in full blast in 2010. Cheers to a NEW YEAR!

It's The Day They've Been Waiting For...

The Christmas Spirit is Ooozing out of every corner of my house this morning! It's Christmas Eve and I have four excited kids (one doesn't understand why he is excited, but he is anyway) that are wishing and hoping for Santa to come tonight with presents from their wish list. We've already been tracking Santa's delivery progress on and my oldest son told me that he's certain it's starting to get dark (night time) already. LOL!

We've had the countdown going, since December 1st, (our fun advent calendar) and they have been dying to see what was in box 24. Guess who it was? So here's our advent scene completed (we are missing a few little pieces thanks to our 1 year olds sticky fingers)! I recommend, if you're looking for an advent calendar that is tons of fun and will last a few years, you should really check out: We have had the best time opening the boxes and seeing what fun piece is in the boxes. I think my kids enjoyed this more than our normal chocolate advent calendars...and they even had to share this one. Yes...we took turns opening boxes.

Spaghetti Tacos...

As you know, if you've read previous posts...we are iCarly fans in this house. So tonight, as I was brainstorming about what to make for dinner, my six year old shouts out, "Spaghetti Tacos Mom". Hmmm...I pondered it for a bit and figured, "What the heck".

So that's what I did...we had iCarly's speciality tonight. I cooked the meat sauce, the spaghetti noodles, fried the tortillas and put together our own fabulous SPAGHETTI TACOS. Just like it sounds, spaghetti and meat sauce in a taco shell with mozzarella cheese on top. Now, for those of you doubting that this was any good...take my word for it, they are pretty yummy. All three of my older kids ate like champs and two of them wanted seconds...they were that tasty.

So, I suggest, if you're at a loss for creativity for dinner, you should cook your family up some spaghetti tacos too. Your kids will think your mighty cool for it!

Sometimes Being A Mommy Isn't Easy...

Being a mommy has it share of ups and downs. It involves good times and sorrow filled times. Today, our family is experiencing the sorrow filled kind. When my older two kids get home from school, I have to break the news to them that they have to say good-bye to our 5 year old German Shepard SHEBA forever. Now, I know that to some, this may not seem earth shattering, but to my kids and is! She is more than just a dog, she's been a child to me and a sibling to them. So this decision is being made with a very heavy & sad heart. Now...the part that isn't easy, watching them as they say good-bye to our friend. And then having to take a turn myself. A final farewell!
If you're the praying type (which I hope you are), please say a prayer for me. If you're not, then any positive thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am not even sure how I am going to be able to coach myself to then load up all the kids in the car, load the dog and drop her off at the vet, knowing that she will never been chasing squirrels in our yard again. She'll never be playing tug of war with me. She'll never be there to have an open ear when my hubby is out of town on business. She has been truly an amazing dog. And I am going to miss her a lot (that's an understatement).
But I find a little peace in the statement "ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN". So maybe I'll see her again someday??

The Smell Of Orange Has Brightened My Day...Let It Brighten Yours Too!

There is something to be said about the smell of an orange. Something fresh, something invigorating, something inspiring (yes, from a fruit scent, huh?) and I always related to it as something clean too. Do you enjoy the scent of oranges too? What about lemons? What about peppermint? We just received a sample from Herban Essentials in the mail (free of charge) of their Orange Towelettes. Since this was the first I had heard of this company, I was truly interested in what made their product line so special. These towelettes are naturally antibacterial, because they use the highest quality of pure essential oils and they smell fabulous! They really do smell great! Fresh, vibrant and refreshing...the scent of orange is distinct and amazing!
Don't take my word for it? My oldest daughter came over as soon as I opened the package (out of curiousity) and wouldn't stop pestering me (pleading & begging) to let her take one to school in her bag today. She absolutely loved the smell and the scent it left on her hands after she washed with it. Even my little guy thought it smelled good enough to wipe his hands with!

Straight from their website:

Herban Essentials uses the highest quality, 100% pure, therapeutic grade, steam distilled or cold pressed essential oils. We make a constant effort to obtain organic, wild-grown oils from American farmers whenever possible. Our products are made in the USA, are cruelty free and are never tested on animals.

Our product line includes the Original Essential Oil Towelettes. Pure, fresh and fabulous best describe the towelettes which are available in essences of Orange, Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Pet and Yoga.
The One Bored Mommy personally recommend you try their Orange Towelettes. There is a reason they have been featured in Oprah's O magazine, In Style, USA Today & Women's Health Magazine. Not only you, but your kids too, will love using these wipes to clean their hands with and the scent will help brighten your day as well!

Some Great Eco Friendly Products From

I've blogged about them before and I am going to blog about them again! We love eco-friendly companies & offers so many, you don't have to shop anywhere else online! sent us a "HOLIDAY gift pack" (free of charge) that included: Wow! This "Holiday Pack" is the perfect starter set for any parent. All four of the products were fantastic quality, safe to use on & around little ones and much better for the environment than the everyday typical products we are caught using on a daily basis. Nature Babycare (diapers that consist of 99% compostable material), Episencial Skin Care (better body butter lotion), BabyGanics (The Grime Fighter All Purpose Household Cleaner) & Clean Well (all natural hand sanitizer)were all included.

Better Body Butter lotion was amazingly hydrating on my 1 year old's dry winter skin. The hand santizer is alcohol free & in a spray bottle, which (in my opinion) makes it last a lot longer than the typical sanitizers. The household cleaner is fragrance free and completely safe to use around children & pets. The diapers fit great, didn't leak and gave my conscience relief with using disposable diapers.

Have you been searching for the right place to buy your eco (GREEN) friendly products? Then look no further than . I really believe they have just about everything (including an amazing baby food line) to keep your family healthy, active and helping conserve the planet earth.

Tis The Season For Some Good Sunscreen?

LOL! I know, I know...most of you are not thinking about the sun's harmful rays as blizzards and snow storms are attacking our cities and towns. However, just as quickly as Christmas arrived on all of us, spring and summer are right around the corner. So I have one question for you...what type of sunscreen do you use on your kids?We got the pleasure of receiving a sample of KINeSYS Kids Spray-On Sunscreen in the mail today (free of charge) and I have to admit, we aren't really going to USE it now (as the snow is about to start falling here), however I am very excited for summer when I can bust out the spray on sunscreen and slather my kids up with some good sun protection.

I prefer spray-on sunscreen. Why? Well, it's just easier to apply on kids. They are always moving and wiggling. Lathering them up with a lotion is difficult, cause who really wants to hold still for that long? They have water to play in, sun to run in and lots of fun to be had. Spray on sunscreen is quick and easy. You do have to spray it in your hands to apply to the face (and then apply), but that only takes a second. A lot quicker than applying sunscreen to the full body that way. Now imagine that times four. YEAH...that could take awhile...and the older ones get impatient waiting for the last couple to have theirs done so they can head outside to play.
KINeSYS makes more than just children's sunscreen. They have products for the whole family's skin! Their products are fully recyclable, carbon neutral & cruelty free. They offer UVA/UVB protection, are water & sweat resistant and PABA-free/Fragrance Free.

So please keep KINeSYS in mind this Spring and Summer as you plan your outdoor activities. Take care of your kids skin, so they are healthy and live long & strong to take care of you!

Thank You Vtech Toys...You Made Some Families In Connecticut's Christmas Merry & Bright!

As I mentioned last week, the One Bored Mommy Blogspot got to team up with Vtech Kids Toys (we are huge fans) to donate to charity, four of their amazing toys. This donation has not only blessed our church & the families these toys will be gifted to for Christmas, but it also blessed our family! The boxes of toys arrived yesterday evening and the kids got immediately excited to see Vtech's name on the side. They were curious what was inside, couldn't wait for me to open them and were even more excited to see the toys that were inside. The funny thing, I got to explain to them that, this wasn't a typical product review. We were not keeping these toys for our family. HUH? My 6 year old had the hardest time with this concept. I explained to her that these gifts were going to be given to families who might not be able to afford to buy a present (let alone presents) for their children this year for Christmas. Thankfully, we have never been in this situation (financially), but my heart goes out for those who have and are currently dealing with this type of scenario. Sadly, children don't understand financial hardships, so it's hard, especially this time of year, for the children of these parents to understand why they are not receiving Christmas present too. Since we are really trying to teach our kids the true reason behind Christmas and the reason we give and receive gifts, this was the perfect forum for teaching. Wow...what a great way to teach my kids the true meaning behind giving! I feel so blessed to be able to help several different families through your charitable contributions to Calvary Church.
Here I am delivering the Vtech Kids toys to the church
This is the Children's Director, who will choose the families "most" in need and help deliver them accordingly.

Though I cannot share the stories behind the actual "gifting", I can guarantee that these donations TOUCHED several families in our church's lives this Christmas.

SO THANK YOU Vtech KidsToys! Thank you for your generosity & caring this holiday season! The One Bored Mommy Blogspot wishes you a very Happy Holidays & New Year and thanks you for letting us be a part of this sweet treat this Christmas! We hope 2010 brings great things for your company! If you continue blessing people in this manner, I can only see things going up from here!

"12 Days Of Christmas" in Busch Garden Style

Our family loves Sea World (we've been twice to the San Diego one), and though we have never been to Busch Gardens or Discovery Cove...we would love to someday! I received this in an e-mail and just had to share:

Just in time for the holidays, it’s “The 12 Days Of Christmas”
as told by an African-themed family adventure park

12 Flamingos Flocking…

Busch Gardens’ Flamingo Island – located in the historic Bird Gardens area – is home to a large flock of Caribbean Flamingos. Flamingos are not born with their beautiful pink plumage. Their color comes from the carotenoid pigments they consume as part of their diet. All flamingos eat with their bills upside-down, tipping their heads into the water to “filter feed,” using special adaptations in the top half of their bill to gather the microorganisms that make up their diet.

11 Lories Landing...

Lory Landing, a domed habitat located in Busch Gardens’ Bird Gardens area, showcases a variety of brilliantly colored birds including several species of parrots, including lorikeets, as well as hornbills and pheasants in both free flight and observational environments.

10 Sheiks A- Jammin' ...

This traveling band of instrumentalists is always a favorite among park visitors. The Mystic Sheiks of Morocco have been a symbol of Busch Gardens since the 1970s and serve as ambassadors for the adventure park at special events and media appearances around the world.

9 Snowy Skaters...

There’s a festive chill in the air at Stanleyville Theater with Christmas on Ice, a limited-engagement ice show that brings a graceful winter wonderland to life through Jan. 1.

8 Meerkats Watching...

Meerkats have outstanding vision, and the dark rings around their eyes help reduce glare from the sun. They stand on their back legs and balance themselves with their tails when they are keeping watch. In the event of a predator, they will act as a group and fight to protect each other. Busch Gardens’ meerkats can be seen in Edge of Africa.

7 Soldiers Marching...

Christmas Celebration is a musical extravaganza, featuring seasonal songs, tap-dancing toy soldiers and fun for the whole family in the Desert Grill –running through Jan. 3.

6 Zebras Grazing...

Grevy’s zebras are distinguishable from other types of zebras by their narrow, dark-brown stripes, which are positioned close together and do not cover the belly. Each zebra has a unique stripe pattern, like a person's fingerprint, and these stripes provide protection by making it hard for a predator to single out an individual in the herd. Busch Gardens’ Grevy’s zebras are just one of several free-roaming herds on the 65-acre Serengeti Plain.

Although known as a frog, The Panamanian golden frog (Atelopus zeteki) is a critically endangered toad. Like other frogs and toads, the golden frog is capable of secreting poison to help protect themselves from predators. In the case of the golden frog, this is a water-soluble neurotoxin called zetekitoxin.

4 Leaping Lemurs...

Ring-tailed lemurs are the most terrestrial of all lemurs, spending a great deal of time on the ground instead of the trees. Their numbers are declining rapidly due to continuous deforestation for the logging industry and plantations, as well as “slash and burn” agriculture. Busch Gardens’ ring-tailed lemurs can be seen in Edge of Africa.

3 Grinning Gators...

The name “alligator” was derived from the Spanish words el lagarto, meaning "the lizard," which is what Spanish explorers called these creatures. Alligators and crocodiles are similar in appearance, but exhibit a number of differences: Alligators are dark colored with a broad, rounded snout, and are usually found in fresh water. Crocodiles are grayish-green, have a narrow, tapered, triangular snout and prefer coastal, brackish and salt-water habitats. Busch Gardens has both – you can compare for yourself!

2 Hungry Hippos...

Hippos spend most of their days in the water or wallowing in the mud, generally coming up on land to feed at night. Hippos are an important part of the African ecosystem: because their favorite food is short grass, they keep these grasses well trimmed which may help to deter grassfires. At Busch Gardens, the hippos in Edge of Africa also receive lettuce, fruits and vegetables as part of their diet.

And a giraffe that's as tall as a tree!

Reticulated giraffes are so named because of the net-like pattern of their spots. Busch Gardens’ 65-acre Serengeti Plain features free-roaming herds of giraffes, zebra, antelope and ostrich, and is accessible to guests via the Serengeti Safari tour, the Serengeti Express train, or from several viewing points along the Edge of Africa pathway.
