Since school is back in session, the fall is upon us now and I know that means "eating season" (you know what I am talking about) is coming,it's the perfect time for me to get back into shape, right? I have two kids in school, one that naps for a copule hours a day and one that is old enough to work on her letters, color or do a learning program on the computer...so mommy has time to tighten and tone her muscles. Fitting in a workout is sometimes difficult, but I know that it will be worth it in the long run and definitely will benefit my "quality of life". My body needs to be exercised, beyond my typical chasing and moving about during the day.
I received this DVD (sent to me free of charge for this review), which put me a little out of my comfort zone. I've never done Pilates before. It's a foreign concept for me, but I have heard that it really works, and hey...I am willing to try most things at least once.
So I popped in the Pilates Weight Loss For Beginners DVD, listened to the opening (by Brooke Siler) and braced myself for a workout unlike any I had tried before.
Breathing is really important with any workout, but especially with Pilates...
This workout started out with some basic stretches, which gets your body ready for the "main event". This video mixes Pilates-concious cardio and mat Pilates. It is a low impact workout, but should, if done correctly...strengthen and tone your whole body and help you develop a slimmer you.
Just a side note, the instructor, Brooke Siler is also a celebrated author, owner of www.reabncy.com and has trained countless celebrity clients like Kirsten Dunst, Lauren Hutton and Madonna.
A few of my thoughts... though the movements are slow and precise, this does not mean you will not sweat. I WAS SWEATING...a lot! I could feel my body stretching out, and even though this was my first shot at this workout...I could feel the toning process beginning already. The descriptions of the movements, the instructors information and the visual movements make it easy to follow and a dvd any person could follow.
I look forward to mixing this Pilates workout into my normal workout routine this fall and I am excited about the results that will come from it. Not only will I feel better about the fact that I am doing some good for my body, but I am pretty sure that the reflection of results will be an awesome reward too!
