Effective Parenting in a Defective World - We Have To Be Prepared! Are You Armed And Ready?

Our Sunday School Class is going through this series and I think that EVERY PARENT, Christian or not, should consider listening to the points Chip Ingram makes about parenting in the culture we live in....

Seriously, guys! I think our kids are worth it! This serious series of parenting classes (so far) has been hard to listen to, sometimes emotional and even touchy...but it hits home when it comes to matters of parenting our kids. There are so many scary things out there, available to them that we aren't even aware about, and are you PREPARED?

Consider this...are your kids worth it?

On My Mind Today... A KILLER Canker Sore!

Canker Sores...it's a sore, sore subject with me today!

Isn't it amazing that these little mouth ulcers can bring so much pain to one's body?  It doesn't just effect your mouth, but your entire being!!
 I HATE THEM!
OUCH! I have a huge one on the inside of my cheek (see the picture of it above) and I seriously can't eat, drink or think without it causing me some major pain!  It's right where my teeth rub and I can't do any mouth movement without it being irritated, which results in tremendous PAIN.

Did you know that Canker Sores are more common in women? They are also a hereditary trait. I know this to be true, because all of my poor children have inherited this problem from me. It's awful and it hurts!  It's funny to me, because when I was little, my mom used to tell me that if I showed her my canker sore, she would get one.  Sure enough...she did.  Little did I know that I probably inherited this trait from her too.  She'll probably get one just from reading this blogspot feature!

So what do you do, when you have a KILLER Canker Sore?  Any suggestions on easing the pain?  I have used ambesol (but then I tend to bite it in that spot, because I am numb and can't feel, which results in an even bigger sore spot).  I have used Ibuprofen to cut the pain (because it really does HURT bad).  We have tried Abreva and it works okay, but you have to continue applying it...

Let me know if you suffer from Canker Sores and what you do to ease the pain or even to get rid of them!

I Want To Know WHY???

This shouldn't take long to answer, so if you wouldn't mind:

I am curious why you visit the One Bored Mommy Blogspot! Please let me know why you stop by! This will not only help me, but also businesses who are considering being featured or have been featured in the past. Give them your reasons why you come to my specific blogspot!

Thanks guys!

It's Here...And We Are Totally Set For Next Weeks "EXCITEDLY ANTICIPATED" Arrival!

Our package arrived today from:
Remember, I told you about how awesome their company is?  Talk about making traveling with little ones super easy on parents.  This is the way to go.  You click, pay and have your NECESSARY items delivered where you are staying...so you don't have to worry about packing, hauling and paying for the extra baggage expenses.

So, my nephew's new travel swing arrived today (one thing that my nephew uses on a daily basis, but she was not "allowed" to bring along because of size restrictions)...along with the adorable toy I bought for him to chew on/play with while they are visiting next week.

I put the swing together already, realized that it takes (4) C Batteries (which I will pick up and have installed before their arrival) and then the only thing we are missing is his adorable little body in it, swinging away contently.

A Confession...Our House Smells Like Stinky Shoes! I Need Your Help!

I have noticed lately...an aroma that is not only disgusting and revolting, but it's starting to take over my home.  That smell?  STINKY SHOES!  Pee Ewww!
It all begins with a little girl who was raised in California, where flip flops are year round footwear and her occasional pair of sneakers were worn without socks.  Flash Forward to now...where this grown up woman still does not enjoy wearing socks and this has reflected on her four kids, which makes for a lot of SMELLY, STINKY, ROTTEN smelling shoes laying around our house.
So what should I do?

Throw all the shoes away and start over (cause they are pretty helpless right now)?

Begin enforcing (HARDCORE) a "MUST WEAR SOCKS" strategy?

Is there something I can do for the smell around the house...something that will over power the stinky shoes smell?

But more room deodorizers and candles so the house doesn't smell bad?

Buy new inserts for all of our shoes and then have the kids & I start wearing socks with them all?

This is a serious problem people!  I went out and bought a couple candles yesterday to mask the odor and I was finding, though the candles smelled fantastic, that...that stinky shoes smell still managed to push through.

I NEED YOUR HELP!  Suggestions?  Ideas?  Tips?  Tell me to get a life?  LEAVE A COMMENT!  Maybe I'm not the only one that has this horribly smelling problem!

You Know How Much I Love CSN Stores, Right? Any Guess What Might Be Coming Soon To A Blogspot Near You? A Giveaway Perhaps?

As you know, the One Bored Mommy Blogspot loves shopping at the over 200 CSN stores online.  In fact, I consider them a resource & point of reference (jumping off point) when I start searching for specific products that we need for our home or family.

For instance, we were just recently in contract on a house and the kitchen needed some bar stools for the island counter area.  Where did I look?
YOU GUESSED IT...
Where I found these amazing bar stools (see picture above).  Unfortunately, we didn't get the house...but I do know where to buy the ones I want when we find the perfect home!

Now...I was teasing you with the title, right?  Be on the lookout for a GIVEAWAY (a rather large one) coming from the One Bored Mommy Blogspot and the CSN stores in the next few days!  This is going to be one you're not going to want to miss out on...so keep your eyes peeled and be ready for some SHOPPING FUN!
I was not paid to feature this post!  I was not compensated in any way!  I will be offering a giveaway in an upcoming post from CSNstores.com

A Teaser Of A Review/Giveaway That's Coming To The One Bored Mommy Blogspot Soon...

Yes, we will be doing a review and giveaway of the Dean's Pretzel dip...which I am very excited about trying out (cause we love pretzels in this house).

I've Got The "Skinny Scoop" On All The Hottest Topics...Do you?

At Blogher this year, I met a company that works perfect for my blog & I love it!  It's actually a site I visit on a daily basis! Why?  Part of the reason people love reading blogs is to learn about what's going on in other's lives.  We are wired to "want to know", even if it's none of our business or has nothing to do with us...right?  SERIOUSLY...especially as women, we like to have our questions answered, share ideas and even learn statistics about things.  Especially controversially things, right?
So, The Skinny Scoop is a website (founded by the two ladies below: Eden Godsoe & Erin Crocker) dedicated to people who want all the info on just about any topic you can think of.  It's also a place you can ask others your "BURNING QUESTIONS".
For instance...I submitted a few of my own questions to the Skinny Scoop to see what kind of response I would get from the people who visit their site.

I have to tell you, I cracked up that so far...it's been 100% NO WAY to this question:

By the way, feel free to leave your answer too!  Maybe you'll change it from 100% no to a different percentage?  Maybe some of you are "brave enough" to share...

Here's another one I did that I loved the answers (see the comments at the bottom):

The final question I submitted because it's a cause I think is "worthy of liking" and I wanted to see how other's felt about it:
I was thrilled with the response I've received so far from that one too!

It was fun to put those questions out there and see what kind of responses I would get from the general public!  I even bet you have some that you're dying to ask...maybe you're to shy to ask in person, but online you would feel totally comfortable to see what other's thought.  The Skinny Scoop is totally a site for you!

If you have a blog, this is definitely one that I would suggest you place their widget on your sidebar.  CLICK HERE to learn more about doing that! Your readers are going to love visiting your site everyday and seeing what new question is on the Skinny Scoop for that day.  Maybe it is something that really hits home for them.

So, I would suggest you head over to the Skinny Scoop today and check out everything they have to offer.  Be warned...it's addictive and you will probably find yourself bookmarking the page, so you can find it easily day after day!

Looking For The Perfect Bedding For Your New Baby Or Kid's Rooms? Look No Further Than "Starry Nights Bedding"!

I have to tell you, one of the things I've searched and searched for online (probably spent hours total looking) is a place to buy adorable bedding for my kids.  Since I sew, I have always considered making their bedding, but would (truthfully) prefer to just buy the sets instead.  But only if I can find exactly what I am looking for.

When I happened upon this online store...I was blown away by their ADORABLE selection and their prices weren't half bad either!
I love the fact that they carry bedding sets for cribs,
for little girls, (I wished I had found this store years ago...because I wanted to do ladybugs in my girl's room and I was having the hardest time finding bedding like this...that didn't have pinks and all kinds of other crazy colors.  I wanted the bold red and blacks)
for little boys,

and even for the teenagers in your life!

My suggestion to you?  If you're looking to re-decorate a bedroom...or perhaps you're getting your very first nursery set up...check out the selection at Starry Nights Bedding before you look anywhere else.  It might be the only place you have to shop!

Looking For A Little Inspiration? Look No Further Than "Project Nursery's" Amazing Blog!

If you're looking for some decorating ideas for your babies nursery, re-decorating your kid's room or even ideas for birthday parties & gatherings...then you must check out this amazing new BLOG.

I love the look of this nursery!  Isn't it darling?
My girls would go GAGA for this room!
Any mommy to be (expecting a boy) would love a baby shower with these kinds of decorations and inspiration, right?

A Few Reasons I Should Get A Cameo On "GLEE"...

So, one of my favorite shows right now is GLEE!  Mainly because I love the music, the story line is cute enough and my husband is actually from the town they portray the show in (in real life).
So, I have come up with a short list of reasons why "One Bored Mommy" should make a cameo appearance on GLEE...
1st - I love to sing (I may not be the best, but I used to be pretty decent...I think)
2nd - I believe someone based Finn Hudson's character off my husband, who was a football player in high school, lived in the outskirts of the town it's based in and his last name is HUTSON.  They just changed one character in the last name and his first name for "security purposes".
3rd - I can still look like a high schooler (in my mind at least), if I braid my hair... or maybe I could be a part of the teacher's crew in the break room if I look to old to be a student?
4th - I think my personality would fit right in on the show...
5th - It'd be good for their ratings (LOL)...cause you know, they really need my minuscule help getting viewership, right?

So what do you think?  Should FOX & the GLEE producers consider me for a part on the show?  Do you have any idea how excited I would be?

Seriously, don't ask me why I am writing this...I know there is no chance in "heck" I would ever be considered, but it's always fun to dream and that's a show I would love to have part in...and since I was thinking about it today...I thought I would share it with you guys!

Come Wish Me A Happy Birthday...

32 years ago today, my parents became "PARENTS" for the first time!
Yep, I turn 32 years old today!  YIKES!  My mid thirties are clearly in focus now and I still feel 18 most days!  Is that normal?  Considering I have four kids to chase around constantly and a busy life to live, I'd say I am pretty lucky to still feel so young at heart!
So here's to another year...
and hopefully (if I'm lucky) many, many more to come!

We Have A Winner...
