How Is It That 3rd Grade Homework Makes Me Want To Cry?

Our poor son!  He's such a hard worker and tries so hard!  He really does!  We just happen to live in a very BUSY household, with obviously  lots going on in the house all the time and not enough space (or a basement even) to keep it quiet, so he can get his homework done without distraction.

Not only that, but his "HOMEWORK LOAD" is incredible!  I am using that word in a negative tone!

I love that we live in an area that makes EDUCATION a key priority, but for heaven sakes!  How much homework does one really need a night?

I seriously want to cry almost every night,2 as him and I struggle to get his homework done.  I can't tell you how many times I have to re-direct him, tell him to focus, ask him to sit down, take his imaginary gun away, suggest another place to do his homework (that is not quite as distracted), lock up the dog, tell the three other kids to play upstairs, try to fix dinner & monitor him as he struggles through it.   Everything distracts the child and deters him from doing his homework.  Even the plant on the kitchen table becomes a play toy to avoid doing his homework.

Do I think my son has an attention issue?  NO...he's just a boy, who really doesn't want to do his homework.  He's burnt out from school all day long, a study group three nights a week and then almost an hour worth of homework and reading every night.  I am burnt out too!  I'm sure some of you mommies can relate!

I guess I just needed to vent.  I know it's a struggle every mother goes through and I shouldn't even be complaining yet...only two of my kids are in school.  I should brace myself for when all four of them are coming home with piles work of homework for us to work through.

LORD HAVE MERCY!

I just don't know how HOMESCHOOLING mom's do it?  Especially since some of them have more than four children!  I'd go absolutely crazy!  SERIOUSLY!  I know I could do it if I had to, but I am so glad that a teacher does the majority of their educational teaching, especially since just doing 3rd grade homework makes me want to cry!

I know how it is! Homework is such a chore, and it always comes when dinner is being prepared! Hang in there...keep up the good work!

Oh, tell me about it. My 5th grader was up until 11pm the other night doing homework, and I finally sent her to bed. Emailed her teacher and told her I refused to keep her up that late again. It's ridiculous! And the thing is... that amount of homework is the NORM for her!!
