How Is It That 3rd Grade Homework Makes Me Want To Cry?

Our poor son!  He's such a hard worker and tries so hard!  He really does!  We just happen to live in a very BUSY household, with obviously  lots going on in the house all the time and not enough space (or a basement even) to keep it quiet, so he can get his homework done without distraction.

Not only that, but his "HOMEWORK LOAD" is incredible!  I am using that word in a negative tone!
Photobucket
I love that we live in an area that makes EDUCATION a key priority, but for heaven sakes!  How much homework does one really need a night?

I seriously want to cry almost every night,2 as him and I struggle to get his homework done.  I can't tell you how many times I have to re-direct him, tell him to focus, ask him to sit down, take his imaginary gun away, suggest another place to do his homework (that is not quite as distracted), lock up the dog, tell the three other kids to play upstairs, try to fix dinner & monitor him as he struggles through it.   Everything distracts the child and deters him from doing his homework.  Even the plant on the kitchen table becomes a play toy to avoid doing his homework.

Do I think my son has an attention issue?  NO...he's just a boy, who really doesn't want to do his homework.  He's burnt out from school all day long, a study group three nights a week and then almost an hour worth of homework and reading every night.  I am burnt out too!  I'm sure some of you mommies can relate!

I guess I just needed to vent.  I know it's a struggle every mother goes through and I shouldn't even be complaining yet...only two of my kids are in school.  I should brace myself for when all four of them are coming home with piles work of homework for us to work through.

LORD HAVE MERCY!

I just don't know how HOMESCHOOLING mom's do it?  Especially since some of them have more than four children!  I'd go absolutely crazy!  SERIOUSLY!  I know I could do it if I had to, but I am so glad that a teacher does the majority of their educational teaching, especially since just doing 3rd grade homework makes me want to cry!

How Old Were Your Kids When You Took Them To The Dentist For The First Time...

Okay so as a mommy who is TERRIFIED of the dentist ( I avoid them at all cost), it's been an issue for me to take my kids to the dentist.  I know it's wrong, cause they need to have their teeth examined, cleaned, etc., but I can't even come to grips with going myself.
Photobucket
So, today I am taking my 2 year old and 5 year old for their first dentist appointments.  There is a part of me that would wait even longer...but another part of me that knows they need to have the dentist look at their teeth and make sure things are all okay.

Have you ever taken a 2 year old to the dentist before?  I am very nervous about how he'll respond to everything.  I can't stand having the x-rays done (it always hurts me and makes me gag)...and I am not sure if they will do that on my kids (though I am pretty sure they will) and I am praying that my little guy won't get hysterical.  He's got a bit of a cold, but he's the main reason I am taking the kids in.  Since we've been living in Connecticut, we've had well water and I don't believe there is fluoride in the water.  I'm noticing discoloration spots on his teeth and it's worrying me.  I've never noticed it with my other kids...hence the sudden dental appointment.

Can I ask that you pray for me?  Please!  Just stepping foot into the office makes my heart race and having to take to young kids in makes me really anxious.  It may seem silly to some, but it's a HUGE deal to me!  I know they will be fine, in fact, they will probably do great and it not even phase them...but for me it's traumatic.

What age were your kids taken to their first dental appointment?  Why?  Was it because of their age, their doctor recommended it, there was a problem you noticed, etc.?  What prompted you to make the appointment and take them in?  I'd love to know!

Mega Bloks New Domino Build Game Will Have Your Kids Grinning From Ear To Ear ~ Plus You Can Win It Too!

Being a larger family, we love to find activities that our four kids can play together...so we can have some peace and quiet.  No...not just because of the quiet factor, though that does make a product much more attractive to me, but we love to find games that they will have a blast playing together too!
Photobucket

We were so excited to be chosen to give review of the newest product, "Mega Bloks Domino Build Game" (sent to us free of charge for this review on behalf of Team Mom).
Photobucket
In fact, you can see the excitement and curiosity on my youngest son's face!

My 5 year old and 2 year old tried it out and seemed to really enjoy playing.  The idea?  You play your dominoes by matching colors and animals.  If you make a domino match, then you win a block to construct your zoo animal.  It helps teaching them about matching, colors, etc.  They were very excited and determined to get their dominoes to match, so their animal would come together!

This is definitely a game I would recommend to families who have preschool - second grade children.  Even parents can get involved and play along!  It was fun for all of and can be purchased from Amazon.com, Toys R Us, Walmart, etc.

Are you interested in this new "EXCITING" game from Mega Bloks?  Do you think your kids would love to play the dominoes and match up their animal bloks?  Then this is a giveaway you're definitely going to want to enter to win!

Who Was The Best Dressed Actress At The OSCARS Last Night?

I'll admit it...I really don't get that excited about the Oscars!  Probably because I spend most of my days & nights watching Nick Jr and Disney Channel...I just can't bring myself to anticipate the awards and I truthfully have not seen a lot of the things that are nominated!  Of course, when I'm nominated for one...that will be a different story all together!  Just kidding...
Photobucket
The one thing I really love about the Oscars though, is the fashion talk.  You know...the good...the bad...the ABSOLUTELY "What Work They Thinking?" absurdly dressed...etc.

Who impressed you the most?  Who made you turn your head away in shock & horror?

Were there any surprises with the awards?

Give me details...was it worth spending an evening watching?  I didn't see it...so fill me in please!

Are You Concerned About Osteoporosis? I AM!! Here's Some Facts And Prevention Tips!

My great grandmother, as I remember her, was an adorable & sweet lady...
Photobucket
She had a kind face, a gentle voice and a humped over back.  When I was little, I never really noticed, but as I got older, I questioned why her back was so slumped & sloped, and why...she seemed to be shrinking at every visit.  Perhaps it was because the fragile bones in her back were breaking and preventing her from straightening back up.  Osteoporosis got the best of her!
Photobucket
So now, my grandmother was put in the hospital a few months ago with EXTREME back pain...to the point she couldn't sit or walk even.  We find out she has basically broken the bones in her back, picking up her dog off the bed, and the doctors aren't sure they will ever be able to operate because there is nothing much left of her bones.  Osteoporosis got the best of her too.

Now here I am...inching my way into my thirties and thinking about my family history, with the women getting osteoporosis in their later years and it's terribly concerning me!  So much so, I ran out and bought a bottle of calcium to take...in hopes of keeping my bones strong and solid for as long as I possibly can.

Did you know though (A Few Facts About Osteoporosis):

Prevention

I hope this might get you thinking..give you new insight and help you prevent osteoporosis from taking the "LIFE" out of you in your older years!  I know it's got me thinking about things I will avoid and do to keep myself young and spunky for as long as possible!

A GIVEAWAY I Desperately Need To Win ~ Win A Canon Rebel SLR Camera from Tip Junkie

So, I posted a few months ago that I was so excited because I was able to get a new Kodak Camera on EBay for very little $$, after I used the gift cards I got at Blogher last year!

The bad news...it's broke already!  No...I am not rough on my cameras.  It's not reading the SD card, and I've even bought new cards, in hopes that would fix it and it's still having the same problem.  :(  The honest truth...I cannot survive without "A" camera! I can't!  I can't!  I can't!

I've been using my Droid phone camera to blog with...but we all know the quality is just not the same.

It's "RECORDER TIME" For Our 3rd Grader...Where's My Ear Plugs?

We are at that age...when the school starts introducing instruments & music appreciation to our kids!  I love it, to a certain extent!  My ears might argue though...
Photobucket
Today our oldest brought home his "Recorder" and his first song book to learn the basics to playing the notes and songs.
Photobucket

I am going to try to be patient!  Trying to be loving and kind to him...but I can feel the headache coming on already!  Anyone want to send me a pair of discreet earplugs?  Those might come in handy for more than just the recorder!  Ha!

Anyway, wish us luck as we dive into this new stage with full force!  He hasn't put the silly thing down since he got home from school!

Where To Buy The NightWave Sleep Assistant...That Was Featured On The Nate Berkus Show

Many people have been asking where you can purchase that awesome sleeping assistant blue light that I received on the Nate Berkus Show segment that aired on Tuesday.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Lucky for you...I've located it for you! Gotta love that, right?
As far as how it works...my kids were so excited about the fact there was a new light in the room, they didn't seem to have a change in falling to sleep quicker.  However, I used it last night and was out in only a few short minutes...instead of laying around thinking and having my brain swirl.  Maybe I was tired or maybe the light worked.  Only GOD knows...but it does make a lovely blue glow all over the room.  It teaches you how to breathe in the rhythm that will put your body to sleep.

CHECK it out (CLICK HERE) and decide for yourself!  If Dr. Oz recommends it, it must be worth the purchase!
I was not paid to feature this post!  I was given the light from my appearance on the Nate Berkus Show!

Yesterday Was Quite A Day ~ A TV Debut, Cable Outage At The Wrong Time, Physicals For Two And Spilled Lemonade!

So, yesterday was my big DAY!  It was a "BIG DAY" for me at least!  My "Nate Berkus Show" segment made it's appearance and I was on edge all day...waiting for my chance to see myself in the spotlight for a few brief moments on TV.
Photobucket
(that's me on stage with Dr. Oz and Nate Berkus...pretty cool, right?)

I basically had to wait all day to see my segment. It was exhausting!  I had my family calling from Texas, my friends commenting from California about how I did on Facebook...what I looked like, etc.  It was invigorating, but truth be told...I just wanted to see the segment for myself to be my own judge about how I looked and did!  I was nervous and anxious and WAITING all day!

The Nate Berkus Show website had all the segments of the Dr. Oz appearance minus mine and I kept checking the site all day long, hoping that maybe they would include my eventually, as the day went on.  But it's still not on there.  I am hoping that they will share it with the world today...so I can share it with my readers directly (cause I know some of you didn't get to see it yesterday).

In fact, I almost didn't get to.  Around 1:00, our cable company decided to put our area in OUTAGE!  Are you kidding me? I seriously could not believe it!  Talk about bad timing & giving someone heart failure!  I had been very anxiously awaiting the 3:00 show and it looked like I wasn't even going to get to see it on TV myself.  I was so disappointed and upset, and basically on the verge of tears.  I did give the cable company an ear full (which I felt bad about doing, cause I am normally not so BRASS...but there were so many emotions involved in those minutes).  Lucky for me...I had left the TV on the channel the show would air on all day and at 3:05, it came on and stayed on long enough for me to watch my segment.  YAY!  I think I did OK!  I was just relieved to it finally and know I didn't make a complete fool out of myself!

So after a very high emotional day of waiting, I had to drag my 3rd grader and my 5 year old to the doctors (with the 7 yr old and 2 yr old in tow) for physicals and vaccinations.  Thankfully, the 3rd grader didn't need shots (though he doesn't seem to mind them) and amazingly enough...the 5 year old didn't even cry when she got hers!  I was so proud of her!

We finished off the day with dinner out (me and four kids) at a fairly nice restaurant and managed to make it out of there with only 2 "FULL" glasses of spilled lemonade all over the table, but no other casualties!
Photobucket
I'd call yesterday a pretty good day!
National t.v. debut, no crying at the doctors and a wet, but delicious dinner out with my great kids!
 I LOVE MY LIFE!

Doesn't it look so comfortable?

I was elated that FOMBAG wanted to participate in our 2nd Anniversary Celebration!

As I Enter A New Phase Of Motherhood...Will You Be Along For The Ride?

For the first time in the past nine years of my life...I am completely diaper free!  Not me personally, but my four kids!  They can now all talk, walk, dress themselves (for the most part) and don't require my assistance for every single need in life.

I have officially entered a new phase of MOTHERHOOD!
Photobucket
Am I ready for this new stage?  This is uncharted territory...

Perhaps it will allow me more time to sleep?  Probably not!  Perhaps it will give me more time to enjoy the "SMALL" moments that slip away so quickly?  Probably not!  But I do embrace the fact that I have been so deeply blessed with four amazing little lives to watch change and grow on a daily basis!  I get to see them through every stage (thanks to my wonderful husband for allowing me to stay at home to be a part of it all) and I am just overwhelmed with the idea that we are moving on...already!

I know...it's what's suppose to happen!  But I really don't know how to proceed!  I have not, not changed a diaper at least 10 times a day, not gone to the bathroom without an unannounced visitor, not had a night of sleep (at home with the kids) that hasn't involved a little person invading our bed or me invading an empty one of theirs.

Will I enjoy it?  I believe so!  Will I long for the day when they were little?  DEFINITELY!  But I am excited to venture into this new phase of life and watch my kids venture into their new phases of themselves too.  Isn't it funny how no matter how old we are, we are always growing & changing!  Life is such an amazingly ever changing present!

So, hold my hand...and brace yourself, cause we will be entering double digits (with the oldest one this year) and soon enough, the pre-teen mentality that comes along with that.  New challenges, new projects and new things to entertain myself with.  It's so exciting!

Thank you Jesus for the adventure MOTHERHOOD is...and that I get the gift of being strapped in for the ride of my life!  I couldn't be more excited or blessed!

I am so glad that I was introduced to her and her music!  I am loving both!  She's full of talent, totally adorable and will grow on you...and into your soul!  Listen to her new song, "I'm Just Fine" and tell me what you think:
She was featured on the homepage of MYSPACE and received over 10,000 hits!  That's huge!

The POSH PUPPY BOUTIQUE Joins The 2nd Anniversary Celebration ~ Win A $25 Gift Certificate To Shop!

If you've got a puppy/dog, I would imagine that you probably love it, right?  Especially if it's an "indoor" one.  That's the case for our family and when we got Jade, I knew she would become like another child to me!  Though we've only had her a few short weeks, I would be so sad if something happened to her and want her to live the POSHEST life a puppy can!  Spare no expenses...right?  Okay, within reason...but I do want her to have some great toys and products that I know will keep her happy and be safe for her to play with.

Remember the review I did a couple weeks ago for the Posh Puppy Boutique?  If not, CLICK HERE to check it out!

They were so excited about how much JADE loved her new products, they decided to participate in our 2nd Anniversary Celebration with a generous giveaway prize!
