I Found A New "KEY" To Naptime In Our House...Want To Know My Trick?

My kids have always been hard to get to nap past age four!  Truly, by the time they turn two, they all have their strategies to avoid napping all together...but I try to enforce at least some quiet time until they are at least four.  That seems to be our stopping age.  The first three, I could only have nap on the couch...because I knew they wouldn't sleep if I put them in a bedroom full of toys.  The little guy, however, has always been really good about napping...until recently.

He cries and fusses and it seems like he's trying to push my MANDATORY age of four boundary!  Mommy dislikes this very much.  So what's a desperate mommy to do?

I tried something the past couple days that has worked like a jewel.  Of course...mind you...he has been running a fever the past two of the three days I've tried it.  Are you dying to know what "IT" is?
Well, he's been going down for a nap on the couch to the soft and soothing sounds of classical music on t.v.  That's right...our cable provider has a music channel that is called, "LIGHT CLASSICAL" and it knocks him out within a few minutes of him laying down.  YES!!  SCORE!

No fussing, no crying, no "you're mean mommy!", none of that...because he is OUT like a light.  This makes mommy very happy!

Just had to share...in case this strategy might work for you guys too!

It's Time For Some Updating...Of Our Inside Wall Paint That Is...

We've lived in our rental house for over 2 years now (and the walls really reflect that fact) and although I love the neutral colors of the paint they had on the walls when we moved in (same color on all the walls throughout the house)...I think it's time for a change in color & even some minor decor.

Since I see us living here for another "WHO KNOWS" years, I think that updating a few of the rooms (our landlord won't mind) with some more vibrant colors will keep me satisfied & happy about the house.  I tend to get bored easily (as if you couldn't tell from the title of the blog) and love to update & re-create our living spaces, etc.  Have to keep things fresh and clean...since this house is where I spend the majority of my time.
So that's where you come in...

Where do you seek out "INSPIRATION" for updating your paint colors, decorating ideas, etc.?
Are there certain websites that you check out on?
Are there shows on t.v. that give you "DECORATING" motivation & inspiration?
Is there a certain "BRAND" of paint that you use as a NO FAIL, for the perfect paint job every time?
I have a feeling, I probably won't start the painting updating until after the kids start school this fall...because, for me, it will be a lot more manageable to paint with only 1 child in the house instead of 4.  But that doesn't mean that I can't plan and dream of what I will do...

SO PLEASE share with me, where your inspiration from "home updating" & "interior house painting" comes from.

How Do You Feel About Your Kids...And COLLEGE. Will Your Pressure Them To Go?

College is a big deal in this day and age.  Right?  I mean, I think most people's perspective is that, "if you don't go to college, you can't amount to as much in society!"  Right again?

So, we have four kids, which are all different (personality wise) and will someday probably all have different paths they will take in life (career wise).  I am not college educated (believe it or not...you can laugh if you want), but did very well, before becoming a stay at home mommy in a career in staffing.  May not sound like much, but it paid the bills and I enjoyed finding people jobs.  My husband is college degree'd (since we've been married) with his Bachelors Degree and is now going through the UConn Master's Program.  So since we have one HS diploma parent and one college degree'd parent...we sometimes don't see eye to eye on goals for our kids futures.  Do you have a similar situation in your house?
My question for you...will you apply pressure (FIRM OR GENTLE) to your children to get the grades necessary, take the test required and seek their future career ONLY after acquiring a college degree first?

Is this important or not?  Will you discourage them for doing things like, going in the Military, heading straight into an occupation (perhaps a family business) or even getting married straight out of high school..
Do you think your children can be successful in their careers and life without a college degree?  Do you think they will not be "worth" as much to a company without that certification on their resume?  Will it hinder them from climbing the ladder of success as quickly or even at all, because they don't go to college after high school?

Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts...

I know...in this house at least, we will be proud of our children, regardless of the direction they go after high school.  Though we may have future ambitions and goals in mind for them...their life (at that point) is theirs to live.  A scary though, right?

That means that all this parenting we've been doing up to that point will prove itself "WORTH IT!"

Four Kids With Fevers...That's How We Do Memorial Day! Because We're Cool Like That!

My poor little guy got sick on Friday night with a sore croupy cough.  All day yesterday, I fought a 101 degree temperature and a horrible sounding cough with wheezy breathing.  This morning, he seemed to have gotten even worse and his lips were a light blueish color.  NOT TOTALLY BLUE, but it scared me to death.  After two 20 minute steamy (not in a romantic way) bathroom breathing sessions, plenty of ibuprofen and fluids...his temp was 103.
( our sweet two year old still smiling even through 103 degree fever)

In a worry, I sent a text message to our FAMILY (she sees our whole family) doctor...and asked for her opinion on what we should do.  She immediately called back (she's amazing like that) and said that she would suggest we take him to the ER.  Why?  Her kids, just a couple weeks ago had pneumonia and her little guy (who is a few months younger than Mason ) was hospitalized.  I guess it's going around!  Fabulous...especially since I know for a fact we have one in the house that is ultra sensitive to pneumonia.

My wonderful husband headed out with the sick two year old in tow, to the ER...while I stayed behind with the three others.  After taking their temps, I found that all three of them were also running a temp.  They all had 99 + degree fevers.  Of course, finding that out didn't make any of them happy either.

I am guessing it's a virus and wouldn't have been so alarmed about our little guy...except that his breathing was so labored and wheezy...which is not a good sign.  With my "AT HOME" croup treatments failing...we had to do something.

If you have a chance...and could, a prayer that he gets feeling better and is not hospitalized would be great!  Thanks!

Oh...Happy Memorial Day too!

When I Was Pregnant With My First Son...A "WHAT TO EXPECT" #GIVEAWAY You Don't Want To Miss!

When I was pregnant with my first son...I had no clue!  I didn't know the first thing about being pregnant, the first thing about the changes my body was going to under-go, the mood swings, the physical things, how the baby developed & those stages, etc.  Even though I was clueless...I was seeking information like a sponge.  Despite the fact that my pregnancy was a surprise...I wanted to make sure that I did everything "BY THE BOOK"
(the day we brought our first son home from the hospital)
And I read that book...on a daily or weekly basis throughout my entire pregnancy.  It eased my nerves, answered some questions I really had, provided me with a GUIDE (so to speak) of truly what I was to expect during a typical pregnancy, etc.  Without that book, I am not sure that my son would have come out as healthy as he did...and for that...I am thankful!

Yes, I have also bought the "What to Expect When You're Expecting" books when my friends and family found they were pregnant.

I am so excited!  I get the fun opportunity of letting (1) One Bored Mommy Reader the chance to choose the "What to Expect" book they need the most at this stage of their life.  The winner will get their choice of "What to Expect" book.

To Enter This Giveaway (you must do the first and then one or all of the following):

Plus, if you are trying to conceive, expecting or just need support after having your baby...you should check out their awesome website:
A special thanks to "What to Expect" for getting me through not just the first, but all four pregnancies.  Having your books on hand bring me peace of mind as to "what to expect".

Are Cereal Box Toys Loosing Their Appeal? Do Toys In Cereal Boxes Mean The Same To Our Kids Generation?

When I was a kid, getting a box of cereal that had a "SUPER SPECIAL" toy inside was a HUGE deal!  We typically got "STORE BRAND" cereal, so it was a treat to us to get the brand name products, but when we had the chance to get our pick of cereal...the toy inside was definitely our LURE.
DO YOU REMEMBER doing the same thing?

But I've noticed, since having kids...my kids (maybe because they are still pretty young), do not get that excited about toys inside of the cereal box.  We do buy a lot of store brand products, but definitely buy plenty of "BRAND NAME" cereal too and it's never been made into the ordeal (in my house with four kids) that my sister and I went through (major fighting and bickering) to get to be the one to enjoy that special toy.
So I am curious...do your kids beg you to buy a certain brand of cereal so they can get that special toy inside?

Do they even know that, on occasion, toys come in cereal boxes anymore?

Have companies backed off in putting toys in cereal boxes because they don't have the same impact on the generation we are raising?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this...

How Do You Feel About This? Family Keeping Baby's Sex FROM FAMILY...Raising a Transgender Child!

So, we were at a church bbq today and I was asked if I heard about the family who is not only raising their children to be "transgender" (choosing their own gender...instead of being who they were born to be) and have just had a baby, who they will not share with the family or friends if the sex of the child is a boy or girl.
WHAT THE HECK?  Are you serious?

How do you feel about this?
Do you think this is really going to be healthy for the children?

From a perspective of a mommy, who is raising four kids...children are almost always drawn to be interested in some things that are cross gender.  Some boys like to play with dolls.  Some girls like to play ball.  Do I think there is something wrong with letting them do it?  Absolutely not.  Have I painted my son's nails so he won't feel left out when I paint the girls?  Of course I have (only clear or blue), but what was that going to hurt?

I just find this strategy ABSOLUTELY WRONG and feel sorry for the baby.  Doing a "HUMAN STUDY" on a baby...is wrong!  For heaven sakes...think about the kids when they grow up and have no idea who they are!  They are going to be even more ashamed to be themselves...having lived in a way that allows them think they could be something they are not.  Letting them choose the sex they want to be...even though they are obviously born with one sex organ or another?  I think this is GOSH DARN wrong.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a MALE or a FEMALE!

Care to share your thoughts with me on this?  Have you heard about this family?

Nursery Rhymes Like We Learned Them As Kids...Do Your Kids Know Them All? YOU MUST SEE THIS!

Traditional things like nursery rhymes we learned as a child, seem to be loosing their appeal with our kids (thanks to modern day technology).  That makes me a little sad.  There's nothing...absolutely nothing like 1982 Longman's Nursery Rhymes video (which is no longer in print).
I was excited when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment contacted me to review their new digital DVD download of The Classic Nursery Rhymes Collection.  I had a feeling that my five year old would LOVE these classics as much as I do.  The best part...we can watch them from the comfort of our own computer (as many times as we want).

I hope that you & your family enjoy this collection as much as our family did!
I was not paid to feature this post!  I was compensated by a complimentary DOWNLOAD of this collection of classic nursery rhymes.

Memorial Day Weekend - Shopping Great Sales, BBQ's And The Real Reason We Celebrate This HOLIDAY...

This weekend is "MEMORIAL DAY" Weekend.  What does that mean for you?
Does that mean you'll be headed to the mall for some amazing sales?
You know, stores typically offer fantastic deals & bargains over Memorial Day Weekend.  Even some offer "TAX FREE" Sales & discounts like they don't offer at any other time of the year.
Does that mean you'll be headed to the nearest park or backyard for a BBQ with friends & Family?
Since Memorial Day is also the "KICK OFF" to SUMMER (and the guideline for wearing white), lots of families spend it in their swimming pool (weather providing), with hot dogs & hamburgers on the grill and lots of outdoor play & activities.

But please do me a favor...as we head into Memorial Day Weekend...
Let's Remember Why We Really Celebrate MEMORIAL DAY!!  Do you know why?
There are soldiers right now...this very second...fighting (and dying) to keep the USA safe, secure and risk their lives daily for our freedom to live here with such a sense of security.  MAKE SURE you stop and say thank you & send up a prayer for veterans of past wars, those currently fighting and those who will be fighting one day.  We are so lucky to live in such secure place...where we can be who we want to be and live like it's no big deal.

My husband is a VETERAN, My Grandfather (though departed) was a fighter pilot in the World War, My cousin's husband is a VETERAN who just came home from war last year to marry her & now they are expecting their first child together (as a family) and I know so many more people who either have or are a part of the "SPECIAL" group of men and women who deserve a HUGE THANK YOU for their sacrifices for our freedom.

By Far The Biggest #Giveaway I've Ever Done...And My Kids Are So Jealous! #Win A Kid's Creations Wood Swing Set!

So, I've been looking into and researching outdoor wooden swing/play sets for my kids.  I have to find some way to stay sane this summer and having something like this to not only entertain my four "VERY ENERGETIC" kids, but also, the neighbor kids, that spend most of the summer at our house with us.
These types of WOODEN SWING SET/ PLAY SET can be pretty pricey, but I did find a site that really caught my eye.  Why?  Well, not only do they have awesome Wooden Swing/Play Sets, but you can actually use their "DESIGN YOUR OWN" option and create the SWING/PLAY SET of your kids dreams!  My kids were seriously drooling down my neck as I was checking out their website and playing around with their "custom" designer.  Of course the Swing Set of their "dreams" would cost us like $19,000.00, cause they wanted everything on it.  It was still fun to play around it with it and "DREAM".
However, one swing set really caught my eye: Two Ring Adventure Wood Swing Set

Why?  Well, it's not only dynamic (perfect for lots of children to play on), but also reasonably priced for what you are truly investing in.  Think about it...your kids are going to play on this swing/ play set everyday (weather providing) year round.  It will get them outside, active, imaginative and entertained.

So...are you ready for the exciting news for you?  I am excited to announce that (1) of my readers children will be able to actually "GIVE TESTIMONY" to it's awesomeness, because I am delighted to be hosting a giveaway of that exact product:

Go Mason Go! He Safetly Can Now, Thanks To His Cool "New" Nickelodeon Character Helmet! CHECK IT OUT!

All of my kids love being outside.  They love riding their bikes (or trikes) and riding all around!  For me, safety is important and what is inside my children's noggin (you know that thing that you wished more people would use sometimes) needs to stay safe and functional, as long as I can personally protect it.  So I always worry about them falling off their bikes (like I did as a kid...I was always crashing & burning) and busting their heads on the concrete or asphalt.  It terrifies me!
I was so excited to find that Nickelodeon (one of our favorite channels) has a "BIKE HELMET" line (being sold exclusively "IN STORE" at Kmart) that not only includes their characters, but offers amazing comfort and protection for my kids & their "very important" brains.
Not sure if you can tell or not, but he was very excited about this helmet for a few reasons.
#1 - He felt like such a "BIG BOY".  His brother & two sisters have helmets too for their bikes
#2 - It came with a bell!  What little boy doesn't want his presence know when following behind his manic brother and sisters?
#3 - It's adjustable, so the helmet (though recommended for ages 5+) was able to tighten to his size
#4 - He loves Go Diego Go and having this helmet on made him feel like he was really going on an "Adventure" with Diego.
He's off and I feel safe and confident about him wearing his new Go Diego Go Bike Helmet (being sold "IN STORE ONLY" at Kmart)!  There's no stopping him now!  And yes...they have a Dora version as well!

Do You Spend A Lot Of Money On Your HANDBAGS? Keep Them Clean And Off The Ground With Purse Hangers USA!! #WIN One Here!

I know a lot of women, who have spent hundreds, and even thousands of dollars on their handbags!  How about you?  If I spent that kind of money on my purse, I definitely would not want to set it on the ground when I am eating at a restaurant, getting my nails done, etc.  The idea of the germs and just common filth from the ground in most places could ruin any handbag.
I was contacted by Purse Hangers USA to do a review/feature of their purse hangers/purse hooks.  Of course, I was excited to see what they would send and the idea of keeping my COACH bags off the floor made me feel better too.
So the package arrived yesterday and we received a 12 Crystal Topaz Gem Purse Hanger with Luxurious Gift Box & Green Apple Rhinestones Purse Hook Hanger with velvet storage bag.
Both products functioned fabulously and I love that the Purse Hook comes with a bag for storage...so you can pack it up, throw it in your bag and be on your way.  The Foldable Purse Hanger was so compact, keeping it stored in your purse would be no sweat either.  Both were very feminine, had rhinestone accents and were made to last.

Wouldn't these Foldable Purse Hangers or Purse Hooks make fantastic Teachers Presents for the end of the school year?  Especially the Green Apple!  I love that idea!

I am so excited that I get to offer (1) lucky reader their opportunity to win (1) Foldable Purse Hanger or Purse Hook of their choosing from Purse Hangers USA.

To Enter This Giveaway (you must do the first and then one or all of the following):
1st - Head over to their site (CLICK HERE) and tell me which one you will pick
2nd - Tell me if you own an expensive bag & are bothered by it being on the ground at restaurants, etc.
3rd - Tell me if you have a purse hanger or hook like these we reviewed/featured
4th - "LIKE" us on Facebook (CLICK HERE) & comment that you do
5th - Follow us on Twitter (CLICK HERE) & comment that you do
6th - Follow us directly and comment that you do
7th - Tweet about this giveaway & comment that you did (you may do this twice daily)

Thanks Purse Hangers USA.  Not only will these make great Teacher's Gifts, but also would be perfect stocking stuffers this coming Christmas for near and dear friends & family.

Were You Happy With the American Idol Season 10 WINNER? Did You Like This Season As Much As Season's Past?

Not sure if you remember or not, but I refused to watch American Idol this Season.  There were several reasons why...but I really did miss it!  I've watched it from the very first season...so missing the entire show this year was not typical of me.
However, I know a lot of people were very passionate about who they thought should have won this year.  I did watch the second to the last show...when the FINAL TWO sing their "first singles" and then leave it in the audience & people at home's hands to make the final decision.  From what I could tell, both were amazingly talented, very young, adorable and have country music careers ahead of them.

But I'm curious...like always, about how you felt when they made the announcement of the "WINNER OF SEASON 10".

Were you excited or frustrated with the results?

Did you, all together, enjoy the new judges this season?

Will you be watching American Idol again next year?

BUBBLE WRAP...Will Always Be A Favorite "FREE" Noise Making Entertainer!! ADMIT IT...You Love It Too!

My kids get excited when they see the UPS man or the FED EX man come to our house for more than one reason.  Of course, the obvious, is their curiosity about what's in the box.  But truly, they are also interested in what is wrapped around the products in the box.  If it's BUBBLE WRAP, I have super excited kids for more than one reason...not only about the new stuff we get to try, but about the fact that they get to
And even completely ruin the BUBBLE WRAP, makes them happy campers!

The funniest part about it to me...my sister and I loved BUBBLE WRAP when we were little too.  We would literally sit for hours popping each individual bubble, hop, skip and jump on it and twist it till every bubble was bursted.  Of course, we heavily annoyed our parents with the sound (the bigger the bubble, the louder the pop)...but talk about truly CHEAP entertainment!

Did you play with BUBBLE WRAP as a kid?
Do your kids love it too?

I am convinced that BUBBLE WRAP is one of those products that will never "go out of style".  Kids of every generation love playing with it, popping it, dancing on it and pinching every little bubble.

On My Mind?? Everyone Being Effected By The Tornadoes And Severe Weather...

Being a California girl, I am no stranger to earthquakes.  I seriously don't fret when the ground starts to shake and have never been SCARED or even worried during one...and I've felt some pretty good sized ones.

But I will admit that I am the biggest wimp when it comes to things like tornadoes and hurricanes.  Why?  First off, you can see them coming...which just intensifies the FRIGHT FACTOR.  Secondly, I don't know the first thing about what you're suppose to do if one is close to touching down near you.  Thirdly, they just scare the living $R%P out of me.  I really, truly hope that I never have to live through an actual experience of being that close to one.  In Columbus, a few years after we were married...we had one touch down 20 miles away from our apartment and I was about scared out of my living mind.

So, in hearing about all the things going on with tornadoes and our entire middle US...I thought it would be a good idea to pray for anyone closely related to these natural disasters.
I mean, watch the video above and you'll understand the intensity that these types of storms bring...HOLY MOLY!  I want to cry and hide just watching this crazy "STORM CHASER" capturing it on video.

So please, take a moment out of your busy day today to say a prayer (or send positive thoughts) for everyone who has been effected or will be affected by these storms.  Pray for protection, for peace during the storm and for clarity of mind as to how to handle themselves during & with the devastating after results.  I actually have friends who are in their basements, as I write this, waiting out the storm.  My heart is really going out to them too.

Going to stop and pray right now!!

Seriously...LOVE THIS BOOK idea already!  To bad my kids are past the "baby stages" or I would have snatched this book up and soaked in the knowledge.  But just because I have to suffer with the amateur pictures I took (or had others take) in the hospital and the first year of each of their lives.
Plus...this inspirational lady has gotten some major NATE BERKUS Show time (because of her talent)...and you know I love him too!  Who knows...maybe she'll choose to use our family to be the example of how to snap the perfect "family" photo or something on his show again...one can dream!

I am so excited that I get the pleasure of offering a giveaway of (1) book to (1) Lucky One Bored Mommy Reader.  If you are pregnant, know someone that is pregnant or have kids...you're going to want this book.  This lady is seriously a photography genius!

Do All Little Boys (Big ONES Too) Like To Pee Outside??

So, as you know...our two year old has enjoyed going pee pee in very interesting places.  His newest thing is to pee while he's outside.  He loves to pee off our back porch (because it takes awhile to hit the ground below), he loves to pee as he's walking down the street, he loves to pee in the grass, in the flower bed, etc.  It really doesn't matter where...if he's outside, he loves to pee.
Teaching him that this is not acceptable, is becoming quite a chore.  He'll pull his "PART" out and just starting peeing, no matter who's around and several times during a typical "OUTDOOR" playtime experience.

Will he ever outgrow this phase?  Marking his territory like a puppy dog?

I have to say, the chances are slim he'll completely grow out of it...though he will learn to govern when it's appropriate or not.  The nine year old learned after embarrassing himself in front of the neighbor kids (when he peed in the front yard, cause he couldn't make it inside...after he got off the bus).  Does that mean that the nine year old does not pee outside anymore?  No...it just means that he makes sure no one is looking when he does it.  Ha Ha Ha!!
This picture (which my sister took of her son and titled "Piss on Boots"), was just the "icing on the cake" for this blog feature.

Doesn't matter how old they are...boys & men like to pee outside!
